Report: Wolves defender ‘quietly’ signs new deal until 2022

|

According to the Express and Star, Max Kilman has ‘quietly’ signed a new deal as reward for his progress this season. His contract was up this summer, but Wolverhampton Wanderers have now tied him down until 2022.

The 22-year-old’s had competition from Willy Boly, Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker, but Nuno Espirito Santo has given him numerous opportunities to prove his worth and hasn’t been disappointed.

Kilman has made 12 appearances across the board since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Maidenhead United in 2018 and has been a regular face in the first-team all season.

Since late-September, the centre-back has consistently been in Wolves’ Premier League matchday squad. He’s made three top-flight appearances but has been on the bench 21 times.

Nuno has given Kilman minutes in the Europa League (450/1350), EFL Cup (180/180) and FA Cup (90/180) too and has clearly been impressed with his form to hand him an extension.

But while the 22-year-old will be at Molineux for another two years, it remains to seen how much Kilman will feature moving forward.

Not only will Boly, Cody, Saiss and Dendoncker stand in his way of a starting place, Dion Sanderson may be added competition after impressing on loan and Ryan Bennett will return from a failed stint at Leicester City too.

Moreover, Wolves are on the hunt for a new centre-back. The Midlands outfit have been linked with LOSC Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, Galatasaray’s Christian Luyindama and Manchester City’s Tosin Adarabioyo among others, so Kilman will have to work hard to nail down a regular spot under Nuno.
