Opinion: Wolves should offer 22-year-old new contract after double January departure

|

Following Jesus Vallejo’s return to Real Madrid and Ryan Bennett’s loan move to Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers could look to tie down Max Kilman to a new contract. The 22-year-old’s existing deal expires in July, so time is running out for Wolves to agree terms over an extension.

Supporters have been vocal in their support for Kilman, but there hasn’t been a lot of progress made on securing his services past 2020. Nuno Espirito Santo only has Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Kilman as natural centre-backs while Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss can operate as makeshift options.

Vallejo left Wolves and return to Real after struggling for form and playing time. He’s since been loaned out to Granada. Bennett joined Leicester on a season-long loan with an option to buy, so there’s a real possibility he won’t return to Molineux. As a result, Wolves can’t afford to lose another defender.

Kilman has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, only three of which have come in the Premier League. He’s been in the matchday for every league game since late-September, so he’s an important squad player under Nuno. Whether he’ll get a new deal remains to be seen, however.
