According to Fotomac via Sport Witness, Besiktas have ‘identified’ John Ruddy as a potential replacement for Loris Karius.
The 26-year-old was spending the season on loan at Besiktas from Liverpool, but Liverpool Echo say he’s cut his stint short over a dispute about unpaid wages.
This has led the Super Lig outfit to target Ruddy, along with Manchester City’s Claudio Bravo and Burnley’s Joe Hart, but it remains to be seen if he’ll leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
Ruddy has made 60 appearances in all competitions since joining Wolves from Norwich City in 2017, but he’s been out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo for the last two years.
Rui Patricio was signed from Sporting CP in 2018 and has been first-choice in goal, confining Ruddy to the bench. The 33-year-old is also out of contract in the coming months, so a departure could be on the cards.
Wolves could benefit from keeping Ruddy at Molineux, however, as he’s been a terrific servant and is a fantastic backup goalkeeper to call upon. Matt Murray says there are fewer better in a No.2 role, but there hasn’t been talks over a new deal just yet.
Besiktas are hoping to take advantage of the situation and may be an attractive proposition for Ruddy if they can offer him first-team football, so the England international may have a difficult decision to make.
