Report: 26 y/o ‘set to snub’ Wolves this summer and Rui Patricio may be to blame

|

According to the Daily Star, Loris Karius is ‘set to snub’ Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer as he’s unlikely to get first-team football while Rui Patricio is at Molineux. The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Wolves days ago, but it appears he wants to join a side willing to guarantee him plenty of opportunities.

Some supporters weren’t too keen on signing Karius, so they won’t consider this bad news. The German goalkeeper was frozen out at Liverpool in 2018 after struggling for consistency and making high-profile errors in the Reds’ Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, so he wouldn’t be an improvement on Nuno Espirito Santo’s existing options.

The rumours came about as John Ruddy was linked with a move to Besiktas – the club Karius joined on loan two years ago. Ruddy is out of contract this summer and may be open to a move away from Wolves as he’s been short of playing time over the last two seasons – 15 appearances since May 2018. He’s a fantastic backup option, however, so Nuno will want to keep him if possible.

Ruddy might be lured away if guaranteed first-team football, as his next move could be the last of his career. The 33-year-old won’t want to see out his time as a goalkeeper on the periphery, but it’s unknown if he’d move to Turkey.

Patricio will be first-choice next season regardless of competition. He’s made 79 appearances since joining Wolves, keeping 21 clean sheets, so Nuno’s won’t be looking to replace him.
