Wolves On The Tweet

“No thanks”, “Absolutely not” – A lot of fans are against Wolves signing 32 y/o to replace 29 y/o

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been recently linked with a move for Gonzalo Higuain, as Raul Jimenez is tipped to exit Molineux this summer.

Vital Wolves have explained why signing Higuain wouldn’t be a good decision and why letting Jimenez go would be catastrophic, so it’s not surprising that supporters from We are Wolves are also against this deal.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Nick Whitehouse: “Had a stint in the Prem and wasn’t any good. He’s getting old.”

David Edmunds: “No thanks. MLS at best for him.”

Paul Fradgley: “No thanks.”

Tony Oneill: “Was poor at Chelsea, so why would he be any better at Wolves? He’s past his best.”

Stuart Johnson: “No way.”

Dave Langford: “Absolutely not.”

Stephen Wiles: “Not in place of Jimenez, that’s for sure. He’s 32 and has lost his pace and scoring touch.”

Kevin Obrien: “No thanks.”

Rick Woodward: “Nope. To progress, you need players on the up or with future potential. He’s heading the wrong way.”

Charlie Flynn: “Nah, Raul is better. Higuain is okay, but he isn’t Raul.”

Ryan Perry: “It’s a no from me.”

Steve Roberts: “Not as a replacement.”

Higuain has made 139 appearances in all competitions since joining Juventus from Real Madrid in 2016, scoring 63 goals and making 16 assists. He’s been short of form this season, rippling the back of the net only five times in 23 Serie A games, so could he really replicate Jimenez’ goal output (44 games, 22 goals and 10 assists in 2019/20) next season?

The Argentine international’s reputation took a hit after spending six months at Chelsea (January 23, 2019 – June 30, 2019) where scored five goals in 18 games. He may struggle returning to the Premier League now he’s older.

Wolves need a top striker to replace Jimenez if he moves on in the coming months, but Higuain won’t be cheap to acquire. He has a market value of £22.95m and is earning £5m-a-year/£96k-per-week at Juve, so are Wolves really going to shell out so much money for an under-performing player?

Silly season rumours . Journalists with space to fill adding two pieces of speculation together eg 2 + 2 = 5.
Wolves don’t have to sell Raul and he could only go to Spain or Italy to improve. Even a swop with Ronaldo would not go down well.
