Wolverhampton Wanderers revealed on Wednesday that they will provide protective 4000 masks to Wolverhampton’s frontline social care workers as the Covid-19 virus continues to spread in the UK.
The Wolves Foundation are acting on behalf of ownership group Fosun to ensure those working in service users’ own homes, care homes and children’s units have the necessary personal protective equipment.
After seeing stocks of PPE going low, City of Wolverhampton Council appealed for businesses and other organisations to donate kit. Wolves had already answered the call and the news of their generosity has gone down very well with supporters.

Council leader, Cllr Ian Brookfield, said: “The donation from Fosun actually came before we put out our general appeal and this is a sign of their commitment to our city. We are truly thankful for this kind donation which will help to save lives.”
City of Wolverhampton Council are asking businesses to donate any spare PPE, such as:
- Fluid repellent disposable gowns – EN13795,
- Nitrile non-sterile gloves – EN 374
- Plastic aprons – category 1
- Eyewear and face protection – EN166
- FFP2 and FFP3 masks – EN 149
- IIR Surgical masks – EN14683
Wolves added: “Donated products must be within their use by date and must adhere to the relevant standards. Any business that can help is asked to contact the council as soon as possible by emailing covid19procurement@wolverhampton.gov.uk with full details of any PPE which may be available.”
Wolves will not furlough any staff either, as per BBC Sport. Chairman Jeff Shi vowed that employees would be paid in full for the duration of the club’s closure. When the campaign will resume remains to be seen, however, as the date has been pushed back from April 30.
