Played 96% of games, utility man, years left on contract – Wolves should avoid €25m sale

Leander Dendoncker has been linked with a €25m move to SS Lazio this summer, but it remains to be seen whether Wolverhampton Wanderers would let him leave.

The 25-year-old has been a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo, is valuable as a utility man and has years remaining on his contract, so there’s no reason why Wolves should entertain bids.

Dendoncker joined the Black and Gold on loan from RSC Anderlecht in 2018 and made 26 appearances in all competitions. The Belgian international turned the move permanent last summer and made 46/48 appearances this season – 96% of available matches.

Wolves didn’t state the length of Dendoncker’s contract in the confirmation post, but Football Manager say his deal is up in 2022 while FIFA say his contract runs until 2023, so the Midlands outfit have tied him down for plenty of years regardless.

Dendoncker has successfully operated in defence and midfield under Nuno too, so he’s useful in a number of roles. The Belgian is five years Romain Saiss’ junior, so it makes little sense letting him go if any existing player has to be sold.

Lazio would have to pay a lot more than €25m for Dendoncker to get Wolves’ attention, but Nuno would be foolish to let him go anyway.
