Opinion: Defender could stay at Wolves

Ryan Bennett was once again left out of the matchday in Leicester City’s 1-0 defeat to Norwich City on Friday evening and may be considering his future at the King Power Stadium.

The 29-year-old has spent a month with the Foxes but already finds himself on the periphery and is getting less minutes on the pitch than he did with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bennett has so far missed Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea (February 1) 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers (February 14) due to ineligibility, 1-0 defeat to Manchester City (February 22) and 1-0 defeat to Norwich (February 28).

What’s baffling is that Christian Fuchs doesn’t often make the matchday squad if Ben Chilwell is starting at left-back but is still preferred as a makeshift centre-back over Bennett should Leicester opt for a three-man defence – he started against Man City but was left out of the squad against Norwich.

Wes Morgan is preferred on the bench over Bennett too, so it’s hard to see where his appearances are going to come from. Leicester have the option to sign the 29-year-old permanently if he plays a set amount of games or has his release clause triggered, but Bennett could be staying at Wolves at this rate.
