Explained: Which seven players left Wolves on deadline day?

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers were one of the busiest clubs on deadline day, completing seven pieces of outgoing business before the transfer window shut at 11pm on January 31 – Harry Burgoyne (to Shrewsbury Town), Jordan Graham (to Gillingham), Benny Ashley-Seal (to Accrington Stanley), Sylvain Deslandes (to FC Arges Pitesti), Ryan Giles (to Coventry City), Dion Sanderson (to Cardiff City), Ryan Bennett (to Leicester City).

Burgoyne joined Shrewsbury on a permanent deal, ending an 11-year stay at Wolves. The 23-year-old made only seven first-team appearances, the last of which came in 2018, so his exit has been a long time coming.

Graham will spend the rest of the season on loan at Gillingham, but the 24-year-old may have played his last game for Wolves as his contract expires in July. His last appearance came in 2017, so he’s been out of favour for a while.

Ashley-Seal will spend the rest of the season on loan at Accrington. The 21-year-old has been on fire for Wolves’ reserve-team, scoring 14 goals this season, so his future looks bright at Molineux. He still has two years left on his deal.

Deslandes joined FC Arges Pitesti on a permanent deal, having made just eight appearances in five years at Wolves, the lasat of which came in 2017.

Giles will spend the rest of the season on loan at Coventry. He was at Shrewsbury Town up until mid-January and will hope to impress any Wolves scouts tracking his progress.

Sanderson will spend the rest of the season on loan at Cardiff. The 20-year-old has been a regular with Wolves u23s but has made just one first-team appearance, so he’ll hope to get more competitive football with the Bluebirds.

Bennett will spend the rest of the season on loan at Leicester and could join the Foxes permanently if they’re willing to pay £5m.
