Meritan Shabani recovered from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in March, stepped up the intensity in April and could be in a position to feature for Wolverhampton Wanderers before the campaign comes to a close.

The 21-year-old joined Wolves from Bayern Munich in August 2019 and ruptured his knee ligament only one month in his debut season while playing for the U23s.

He’s been rehabilitating ever since, however, and could make the bench when the Premier League resumes in mid-June.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

As per Transfermarkt, Shabani represented Bayern Munich at U17 (four games, two goals), U19 (87 games, 20 goals, 12 assists), reserve-team (32 games, six goals) and first-team (three games) level, so he came to Molineux with a lot of pedigree. Wolves signed Shabani on a three-year deal last summer too, so it’s clear they have high hopes for the midfielder.

Shabani finds himself behind Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker and Bruno Jordao in the pecking order, but he may have an opportunity to edge ahead of Morgan Gibbs-White, after the 20-year-old fell foul of club regulations by breaching lockdown rules.

Gibbs-White was playing reserve-team football when the season was postponed, so Shabani could capitalise on the situation if he’s fully fit. Time will tell. The Premier League is back on June 17, so he’ll have had three months to improve his conditioning after being able to run again.
