Ryan Bennett was once again left out of Leicester City’s matchday squad as they beat Birmingham City on Wednesday evening – Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu started while Wes Morgan was on the bench.

The Foxes sealed their place in the Quarter-Final of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium, but the 29-year-old is still awaiting his debut since joining in January.

Bennett’s loan move to Leicester included the option of a permanent deal, but it doesn’t look likely that it will be triggered – he’s spent five weeks training with City and has been consistently overlooked by Brendan Rodgers.

Jonny Evans, Caglar Souyuncu are ahead of Bennett in the pecking order while Morgan has been the preferred backup. With only two months of the season remaining, the defender’s chances of getting playing time look grim unless injury strikes.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back missed Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea as he’d only joined a day previously, missed their 0-0 draw with Wolves due to ineligibility, missed the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City as Christian Fuchs was preferred as a third defender and missed the 1-0 defeat to Norwich City due to Morgan’s selection on the bench.

Leicester next face Aston Villa on March 9, but it remains to be seen if Bennett will make the squad.

Leicester had no intention of playing him, they are just using him too make up the numbers and had no intention of buying him, just a second rate outfit rumbling along on the tragic death of their owner and using the sympathy card that comes with it.
