Rafa Mir has admitted his loan exit from Wolverhampton Wanderers isn’t going to plan after his recent snub at SD Huesca. The 22-year-old had his stint at Nottingham Forest cut short in January after struggling for form and playing time, but his return to Spain is now spiralling in a similar fashion.

Mir has made six appearances for Huesca, scoring two goals. He was sent off in their 1-0 defeat to Girona last month, however, and hasn’t started a game since. The Spanish striker came off the bench in Huesca’s 2-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano and 2-2 draw with Extremadura, racking up less than an hour of playing time combined.

He admitted frustration with the lack of playing time, telling AS via Vital Forest: “I am comfortable playing, where I am not at ease is on the bench. I am working calmly, I am happy. It is true that in the last two games I have not started. It is a decision that depends on (head coach) Míchel (Sanchez). I’ve been talking to him. When I have the opportunity I will try to do my best. It is not my moment, it is the moment of the team.”

Míchel has preferred Shinji Okazaki in recent weeks and has been vindicated in his decision – the 33-year-old has three goals in his last three Segunda Division appearances. Mir hasn’t found the back of the net in the league for five weeks, so he’s hardly proving his case to start.

Huesca are currently fourth in the table with 47 points from 30 games and could go third with a win over Fuenlabrada on Saturday, so it’s hard to see Michel changing his attack.

Mir can join Huesca permanently if his buying option is triggered at the end of his loan deal next year, so the 22-year-old will be keen to get more opportunities to impress.
