Many Wolves fans have reacted on Twitter after the U23s captain Christian Marques signed his first pro contract with Wolves.
Only turning 17 in January, the centre back holds both Swiss and Portuguese citizenship and is already the captain of the squad – not a bad feat for someone playing six years above his age-grade.
He seems to be a born leader, as Switzerland U16s fancy him as their skipper too, according to the Wolves website.
The player joined the academy halfway through the 18/19 campaign from Grasshoppers and started to appear for the U18s. As the website states, he began the campaign as a first-year scholar, he finishes it as the youngest player to ever wear the armband for the development side and with a professional contract to his name.
Should Daniel Podence be starting?

Scott Sellars, the head of the Academy, praised Marques’ mentality for the reason he has been able to have such an impact in such a short time.
The report also claims that Nuno has had a stern eye on the player and he has frequently been asked to play with the first-team.
Fans loved to hear the news, with many identifying him as a future captain.

So far in his academy career, Marques has recorded 22 appearances for the U18s and the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League North, managing to score twice. For the U23s, he has played twice in the Leasing.com Trophy and nine times in Premier League 2, as per the website.
