Barry Douglas revealed in Twitter Q&A that his move to Leeds came out of the blue. He was a regular for Wolves when they earned promotion to the Premier League but never got to play in the top-flight as Leeds came knocking in the summer of 2018 and Nuno Espirito Santo was willing to let him go.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

He said: “To be honest, Nuno came and just spoke to me and said: ‘This is the plan for the club moving forward. We’ve had an offer from Leeds and we’re gonna accept it. Ultimately it’s up to you, but this is where we’re at’.

“So I had to quickly make a decision to sign for Leeds. And when I look back, it was a really big project and I’ve had a chance to hopefully achieve success. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, who knows what we’d be doing right now.”

Douglas joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Konyaspor in 2017 and went on to make 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and making 15 assists before he joined Leeds in 2018.

The 30-year-old was a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo and had an impressive goal output, but he was offloaded when Wolves were promoted to the Premier League.

Douglas has gone on to make 39 appearances for Leeds and has five assists to his name. He featured on a regular basis in his debut campaign under Marcelo Bielsa but has fallen down the pecking order since.

The Scottish international has made only 11 appearances in the Championship this season, amassing 435 minutes of football.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic halted proceedings, Douglas spent the majority of his time left out of the matchday squad or as an unused substitute, so his future may be uncertain again.
