Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the market for a midfielder this summer to accompany Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss next season.
The Midlands outfit have been linked with a move for John McGinn, Franck Kessie and Morgan Sanson, and now Transfer20 have named Wolves as a potential suitor for William Carvalho.
Whether Nuno Espirito Santo and John Marshall will make a move remains to be seen, however, as Transfer20 say the 28-year-old has a €30m asking price and is coming off the back of a disappointing season.
Carvalho has spent the last 23 months at Real Betis, joining the Spanish outfit on a five-year deal from Sporting CP in 2018. He’s gone on to make 52 appearances in all competitions for Betis and has five assists to his name, but the 28-year-old’s time at the Estadio Benito Villamarín may be up this summer.
As per Transfermarkt, Carvalho made only nine appearances in 2019/20 before the Covid-19 pandemic halted proceedings, featuring three times since September. He spent October, November, December and January sidelined with a ‘muscle injury’ and suffered a recurrence just weeks after making a recovery.
Indiscipline was a problem too with Carvalho picking up four yellow cards and one red in the nine games, so it makes little sense why Wolves would make a move for the 28-year-old.
