Although Wolverhampton Wanderers generally performed well in Thursday night’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Conor Coady was singled out by supporters for two mistakes that cost his side the game.
The 26-year-old was beaten in the air by Jordan Henderson for Liverpool’s first goal and he slipped in the build-up to their second, handing Roberto Firmino a free shot at goal which he fired into the top corner to seal the win late on.
While Coady has been a terrific servant for Wolves, he’s been guilty of making errors leading to goals this season and was criticised on social media as a result.
Just for one game… I’d like to see a #wwfc team without Coady.
He’s so poor defensively.. either backs off to much or dives in. Never attacks the ball from crosses. He hasn’t got a clue how to defend.
One game, three proper defenders, because our defensive record is DIRE !

At fault for both goals tonight. Weak.

For me if we really want to kick on next season we have to get upgrades on Coady and Doherty.. may sound harsh but it’s reality I’m afraid #wwfc

Against Liverpool, the centre-back played for 90 minutes, made 83 touches, completed 89.7% of his 78 passes, made one tackle and blocked two shots. Coady failed to make an interception, failed to win an aerial duel and failed to make a clearance, however.
He’s made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, playing every minute of every Premier League (2160), Europa League (1080) and FA Cup (180) game. Despite his errors, Coady should keep his place in defence when Wolves travel to face Manchester United on February 1.
