‘Weak’, ‘So poor’, ‘At fault’ – some fans slate Wolves defender after Liverpool defeat

|

Although Wolverhampton Wanderers generally performed well in Thursday night’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Conor Coady was singled out by supporters for two mistakes that cost his side the game.

The 26-year-old was beaten in the air by Jordan Henderson for Liverpool’s first goal and he slipped in the build-up to their second, handing Roberto Firmino a free shot at goal which he fired into the top corner to seal the win late on.

While Coady has been a terrific servant for Wolves, he’s been guilty of making errors leading to goals this season and was criticised on social media as a result.

Against Liverpool, the centre-back played for 90 minutes, made 83 touches, completed 89.7% of his 78 passes, made one tackle and blocked two shots. Coady failed to make an interception, failed to win an aerial duel and failed to make a clearance, however.

He’s made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, playing every minute of every Premier League (2160), Europa League (1080) and FA Cup (180) game. Despite his errors, Coady should keep his place in defence when Wolves travel to face Manchester United on February 1.
