Transfer blow for Wolves as 27-year-old could sign new deal with PL rival

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in the market for a central defender as Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss have been forced to operate in makeshift roles at the back, and one player Wolves have been linked with is John Egan.

Unfortunately for the Midlands outfit, however, Egan could be renewing his deal with Sheffield United, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 27-year-old has spent 18 months at Bramall Lane and made 72 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating two goals. Egan has impressed in the Premier League too, playing in 26 of their 27 top-flight games this season, leading to Wolves showing interest in his signature.

It was always unlikely that United would allow such an important player to leave, let alone Egan seeking an exit with the Blades sitting eighth in the table, but Wolves may have thought their own impressive league and European campaign could convince him to make the switch – sixth in the PL and into the last-16 of the Europa League.

But with Egan in talks over a new deal with United, Wolves may have to turn their attentions elsewhere. They may yet have Ryan Bennett returning over the summer as his loan spell at Leicester isn’t going to plan currently.
