Ryan Bennett could be on his way out of Wolverhampton Wanderers before the summer transfer window shuts.

The 30-year-old struggled for playing time last season and looks surplus to requirements this campaign, but Wolves are running out of time to complete a deal.

A Premier League move must be completed by October 5 while a Football League move must be completed by October 16.

What happened to Bennett?

Bennett joined Wolves from Norwich City in 2017 and has gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with one assist.

The 30-year-old only amassed 604 minutes of Premier League football last season, however, and was loaned out to Leicester City (January 31, 2020 – July 31, 2020), so it’s clear he no longer has a future at Molineux.

Bennett is behind Conor Coady, Romain Saiss, Willy Boly and Max Kilman in the pecking order under Nuno Espirito Santo and doesn’t even make the matchday squad.

His deal is up in 2021, so we’ll have to cash in this summer for maximum value. If we fail to offload the 30-year-old before the window shuts, Bennett could leave on a free transfer next year.

Where could he go?

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Fulham, but the Cottagers are leaning towards a loan rather than a permanent deal which may throw a spanner in the works.

Fulham would be able to provide Premier League football, but it may only be for the season – the Cottagers are bottom of the table without a point after three games. They have the second-worst defensive record too, so Bennett might have a torrid time there.

Leicester were linked for a time, but Bennett only made five appearances from a possible 16 so the Foxes opted against signing him this summer. They’ve since brought in Wesley Fofana from AS Saint-Etienne too.

Some Wolves fans have shown support for the centre-back and want him to stay, but it’s clear Nuno doesn’t want or need him. Bennett’s last appearance was back in January. Time will tell where he ends up.
