Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday and Willy Boly was one of many players who underperformed. The 29-year-old gave an interview ahead of the weekend clash, playing down talk of joining Arsenal and insisting he wasn’t scared the Gunners, but his comments have blown up in his face after an uncharacteristic display at Molineux.
Really rough day at the office for Willy Boly – has a legitimate shot at making Didier Deschamps’ Euros squad next summer but he’s ultimately going to be judged by Les Bleus’ staff on his performances in key clashes like this. Tonight hasn’t helped his cause.

Boly will get some stick after his video the other day, oddly poor today. Distribution and possession distinctly average, Arsenal tbf done a job on us well. Not enough work rate and energy. Hopefully sorted out for Weds #wwfc

Really bad day today. Doc poor, Boly poor, Saiss poor, Raul not involved, rubbish free kick tricks. However, have to shake it off as a one-off and move on. Don’t let it derail a great season so far. #wwfc

Against Arsenal, Boly played for 90 minutes, had 67 touches, completed 92.9% of his 56 passes, created one chance, attempted six long balls with 66% accuracy, won four aerial duels, made two clearances and made three tackles.
He was at fault in the build up to Arsenal’s first goal after failing to snuff out a cross-field pass. Boly nearly cost Wolves a third late on too after being dispossessed in his defensive third, so it wasn’t an evening to remember for the centre-back.
Signed on loan from FC Porto in 2017 and permanently for £10.8m in 2018, Boly has gone on to make 106 appearances in all competitions. He’s featured 28 times across the board this season and has mostly impressed, but Saturday’s outing was disappointing.
Wolves face Sheffield United on Wednesday, so Boly has a chance to quickly put things right.
