Romain Saiss was one of many Wolverhampton Wanderers players to come away with praise after Thursday’s 4-0 win over Espanyol in the Europa League. Wolves won the first leg of their last-32 clash and will be big favourites to reach to the last-16. Saiss played his part in shutting Espanyol out.

The 29-year-old helped limit Facundo Ferreyra, Óscar Melendo and Jonathan Calleri to just three shots between them. He also played his part in Wolves keeping their third consecutive clean sheet in all competitions – 0-0 draw with Manchester United (February 1), 0-0 draw with Leicester City (February 14), 4-0 win over Espanyol (February 20).

Against Espanyol, Saiss played for 90 minutes, made 60 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 73.3% of his 45 passes, found a teammate with four of his 12 long balls, made two tackles, gave away one foul, made three interceptions and made eight clearances.

The 29-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals. Despite being a natural midfielder, Saiss has been a regular at centre-back under Nuno Espirito Santo and didn’t let his manager down on Thursday night.
