Wolverhampton Wanderers booked their place in the last-16 of the Europa League after their 6-3 aggregate victory over Espanyol, but the game will be best remembered for Pedro Neto’s incredible miss.
The 19-year-old came off the bench in the second-half and could have won the game for Wolves in the 87th minute when he capitalised on an error on the halfway line from Adria Pedrosa and dribbled past goalkeeper Andres Prieto, but he somehow fired his shot wide of the open goal.
Good job it doesnt matter because that is miss of the season right there from Pedro Neto? #EuropaLeague #wwfc

I'm glad I watched that Pedro Neto miss from the comfort of my living room and not in Barcelona. Shocking performance against bottom of the league. I'd be asking for the club to refund the flight money if I was you 😉😉 #wolves #wwfc

Neto needs to be finishing that chance. Literally the difference between winning and losing. Luckily for him, we're sailing through to next round 🐺 #WWFC

Through to the last 16 is all that matters…..but sloppy, disjointed performance, Gibbs-White and Vinagre v poor….Kilman looked steady apart from Pen, and Podence looks a quality player….I’m going to selectively ignore Neto miss and forget it happenend #wwfc

A little disappointing to lose that game tonight despite the changed lineup and having done the job in first leg. Did enough to get a result and our record away in the Europa has been strong. How Neto has missed that open goal 🤷♂️ Looking forward to tomorrow’s draw! 🐺 #wwfc

We're through! Bit of a poor game, we seem to struggle when the team changes a lot and Neto will be having nightmares about that miss bless him. Like the look of Podence though. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow, safe journey back everyone. #wwfc #Europaaywe https://t.co/3e2oq2KbZw

I can only begin to imagine what the Pedro Neto Bloopers Reel will look like at the end of the season. He's a brilliant little player but, my word, he's had some incredible moments so far.#WWFC

The score was 2-2 at the time, so Neto could have sealed victory in the dying moments, but Espanyol went on to score a winner themselves in the 91st minute – Jonathan Calleri completed his hat-trick.
Against Espanyol, the 19-year-old played for 26 minutes, had 11 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 80% of his five passes, had two shots with 50% accuracy, drew one foul and had two successful dribbles.
Despite the result, Wolves will be happy to have sealed their place in the next round. Neto will be kicking himself, however, as he’s still without a goal in the Europa League this season.
