Lasted 7 months, had 1 appearance, dropped from U23s – Wolves signing 22 y/o was a mistake

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers sold Flávio Cristóvão to FC Juniors OÖ in February, just seven months after signing him on a free transfer from CD Aves. As per Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old made just one appearance at senior level for Wolves and turned out three times for the U23s before his departure.

Cristóvão spent the majority of his Midlands stint on the periphery of the first-team and reserves, so it remains to be seen why Wolves even signed him in the first place.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

The Portuguese defender made his first appearance for Wolves U23s in August’s 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers – he played 33 minutes at centre-back. Cristóvão’s second appearance came in September’s EFL Trophy win over Carlisle United where he played 90 minutes at the heart of the backline.

His first senior appearance came in October’s EFL Cup defeat to Aston Villa, where he came off the bench in the 77th minute, and the 22-year-old’s last outing came for the U23s in November’s 2-2 draw with Derby County.

As per Transfermarkt, Cristóvão was an unused substitute nine times for the reserves and left out of the matchday squad on seven occasions, so it’s not hard to see why he was offloaded. It’s more pertinent to ask what the recruitment team ever saw in him.

As per ForaDeJogo, the defender has bounced around a lot of clubs in his young career – Estoril (2006 -2007), Aboboda (2007 – 2010), Tulias Alcoitão (2010 – 2012), Aboboda (2012 – 2014), Casa Pia AC (2014-17), SC Mirandela (2017 – 2018), Aves (2018 – 2019), Wolves (2019 – 2020) and Juniors OÖ (2020 – present) – so it remains to be seen if he’ll settle in Austria.
