Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Everton 3-0 on Sunday to end their two-game winless run in the Premier League and Ruben Neves was one of many players hailed by fans on social media for his performance. The 23-year-old shone alongside Leander Dendoncker in midfield, breaking up the play and dictating the tempo. He also produced an outstanding assist for Diogo Jota.
Much needed win. 🐺
Neves was immense today. All the tackles & interceptions he does go under the radar at times and to top it off with that pass was unreal. Superb game.
Happy for Diogo too, needed that. Hopefully he kicks on now 🤞🏻

@Wolves needed that, if we play bad ill speak my mind, but we usually have little blips.
But yet again we've bounced back, Neves, Podence, Boly, Coady & Donk were great
Doc's good but we need to improve that position to push on
P.S Toffee fans, I'd be worried! #WOLEVE #wwfc

Podence was excellent and Neves sublime in a one sided game which we probably should have hit at least five. Pleased for Jota on his goal too especially after the early 1 on 1 was fluffed, history has suggested the end of his barren goal runs tends to see a run of goals #wwfc

When Neves is on it. Wow. We just look like a transformed team. Exceptional talent. Not just talking about the assist for the 3rd goal. He's sees things Derek Acorah could only dream of seeing.#wwfc

Neves was class today. So much better in a 3-4-3 than as the DM in a 3-5-2. Also arguably more effective with someone to do the dirty work alongside him (Dendoncker, Saiss & N’Diaye in the champ) rather than Moutinho. Nice problem to have tho! #wwfc

Worries re going w/a MF 2 that inc Donk proved unfounded.
A performance brimming w/intensity, movement and creativity – all that the Arsenal/Sheff U matches weren't.
Neves dictated the game, Podence silky smooth & an interchanging front 3 helped #wwfc play between the lines.

Giving neves the responsibility of being the main man in midfield is what we need to do long term.
He’s the complete midfielder.
Can tackle, his passing range is outstanding and he scores 4% of his shots . #wwfc— Whitty (@witdawit) July 12, 2020
Against Everton, Neves played for 90 minutes, had 106 touches, completed 89.1% of his 92 passes, created three chances with one being an assist, had two shots, attempted 14 long balls with 11 finding a teammate, made five tackles, blocked two shots, made three interceptions and made one clearance.
The £36m-rated midfielder joined Wolves from FC Porto in 2017 and has gone on to make 131 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals with eight assists. Neves has made 49 appearances across the board this season, scoring four and assisting three, and often steps out of the shadows when Joao Moutinho isn’t in the starting eleven.
The Portuguese international is composed in possession, has a great range of passing and is adept at turning over the ball. Neves showed his quality on Sunday and deserved the plaudits.
