Report: Wolves ready to step up chase for midfielder with 10-goal contributions

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked once more for a move for Marseille’s Morgan Sanson.

According to reports from Le10Sport, West Ham had an offer worth £27.5m rejected in the January transfer window for the central midfielder and ended up signing Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague instead.

These aren’t the only two teams who are after the £30m rated man, either, with Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle all said to be ‘plotting moves’, according to the Birmingham Mail.

So far this season, the French midfielder has flourished under the guise of former Spurs and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, helping their side reach second in Ligue 1.

As a box-to-box midfielder, Sanson has been able to contribute five goals and five assists in Ligue 1 this season from 27 games, proving the player’s attacking prowess.

Defensively, the player averages 2.2 tackles per game as well as 0.9 interceptions per match.

From a passing perspective, the player averages 1.1 key passes per game, has a passing percentage rate of 85.9 per cent.

Elsewhere, he contributes 1.4 dribbles per game, as well as 1.4 shots per game, truly proving that he has many strings to his bow – something which could be attractive to the Wolves recruitment team.

Transfermarkt’s stats suggested that the player is predominantly a central midfielder, but he can also play as an attacking and defensive midfielder.

Therefore, that kind of versatility within the central midfield position is likely to be appreciated by Wolves. Both Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho tend to be dead certain to start when the club are playing within a 3-4-3 formation, but Sansom’s ability to be able to play in a variety of different roles within that position means he is likely to have an impact when the club play with three in the middle of the park in 3-5-2.

Additionally, Joao Moutinho is now 33, so Wolves will be planning on a long-term replacement for him too.
