Agent comments, erratic form, lofty asking price – Wolves may be unlikely to sign 23 y/o

Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of many clubs that have been linked with a move for Franck Kessie, but it always seemed unlikely that they’d land the 23-year-old’s signature as he only joined AC Milan permanently last summer.

Kessie moved to the San Siro on loan in 2017 and impressed enough to be signed on a three-year deal in July 2019. Tuttosport still believe the Ivorian midfielder could be sold for the right price, but Wolves may think twice about lodging a bid.

Kessie has made a total of 121 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri, scoring 13 goals and making nine assists. He’s been a regular under Stefano Pioli this season but has struggled for consistency.

As per WhoScored, the 23-year-old has lost the ball through dispossession or an unsupported touch 65 times, lost 60% of his aerial duels, made 39 fouls and been dribbled past 21 times in Serie A this season.

Not only may Wolves be put off by Kessie’s erratic form, the Midlands outfit may have also heard recent comments made by agent George Atangana, who made it clear that his future was at Milan.

The midfielder’s representative told Calciomercato via Football Italia: “I remember it being a gamble to join Milan. We signed for them because it’s a club that has always meant a lot to us.

“Now there’s a project under development and it’s for this reason that I think his future can be in red and black. We’re at one of the biggest clubs in the world, which certainly isn’t going through its best spell but which intends to revive itself.”

Kessie’s camp are adamant on him staying and Milan slapped a £30m price tag slapped on the 23-year-old’s head in February too, so he’d be Wolves’ second most-expensive signing.

With John McGinn and Kalvin Phillips on their radar, it remains to be seen what comes from the Kessie rumours.
