Wolves the most likely destination for 24 y/o with £17.5m price tag – opinion

Wolverhampton Wanderers to be the most likely destination for Senegalese defender Pape Abou Cisse, if the reports are true about him being linked to the club.

According to the Greek website Sdna (via Sport Witness), Wolves are seemingly the in the race for the Olympiacos defender alongside both Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, and if this is true, then surely Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is the place you want to be.

The 24-year-old has been having a good season, mirroring the success that Olympiacos are having both domestically and in Europe.

After failing to win the Super League for the past two seasons – AEK Athens and PAOK have won the last two respectively – they have dominated the division this time around, and are unbeaten from their 26 games this season in the league.

In Europe, they are facing Wolves currently in the final 16 of the Europa League after managing to defeat Arsenal in the round of 32. The two drew 1-1 in the first leg in Athens, so it is finely poised for when – or if – the season begins again.

Could you see Diogo Jota leaving in the summer?

Not sure

No chance

No chance

Yes I can

He has missed much of the season due to an injury, but since he has returned in the new year, he has managed to be a standout player, as suggested by this Football Fancast article.

The Sdna report suggests that the player could be available for around €20m (around £17.5m).

Of course, both the Blades and the Eagles have something going for them. Palace have been in the Premier League for the longest amount of time and United still have the chance of qualifying for Europe this season, but in truth, Wolves seem the obvious choice.

Wolves will be the strong favourites to get through this European tie, and with them just five points off the Champions League places, they could still be in the competition one better than this one next season, which is likely to be very attractive to their centre half.
