Wolves ‘polling the ground’ for ‘indispensable’ 26 y/o, manager sees him as the ‘backbone’

According to Türkiye Gazetes, Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘polling the ground’ for Christian Luyindama and may have to battle Everton, Bournemouth and Aston Villa for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Luyindama initially joined Galatasaray on loan from Standard Liege in January 2019 and impressed enough to turn the move permanent at the end of June. He’s made a total of 32 appearances in all competitions and is regarded as ‘indispensable’.

The DR Congo international has a €15m (£13.06m) asking price, but Türkiye Gazetes say Galatasaray are keen to keen him. Manager Fatih Terim sees Luyindama as the ‘backbone’ of his side and wants to extend his deal past 2022, but the growing interest may turn his head.

His first full season at the Türk Telekom Stadium hasn’t gone to plan, with Luyindama spending the second half of the campaign sidelined with a knee injury. As per Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old ruptured his cruciate ligament in November 2019, but he’s since made a full recovery and should be in a position to pass a medical.

Wolves have Max Kilman, Conor Coady, Willy Boly, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker at their disposal, but Nuno Espirito Santo is on the hunt for another centre-back. The Midlands outfit have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Tosin Adarabioyo, LOSC Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes and Sheffield United’s John Egan, but it remains to be seen who will be brought in.
