Wolves on the verge of completing first signing of the January window – report

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of making their first signing of the window as Nigel Lonwijk looks set to join the club.

While no announcement has been made by Wolves, Lonwijk’s Instagram says he is located in Wolverhampton, and PSV have announced that he has left the club, so everything apart from the announcement looks to be as good as done.

The teenager has been long linked with Wolves, and with PSV’s announcements, fans can now rest assured that he will be a Wolves player.

PSV have said (via the Express and Star): “Nigel Lonwijk has made the definitive switch to the English football club Wolverhampton with effect from the second half of the season.”

The centre half, 17, will be joining with Wolves’ development squad after departing from PSV’s under 19s.

He failed to make an appearance for the U19s this season, according to Transfermarkt, but has played 19 times for the U17s, assisting three times.

How will Wolverhampton Wanderers fare against Newcastle United?

Win

Draw

Lose

With centre-backs probably being on the top of Nuno Espirito Santo’s wishlist, this is unlikely to be what most of the fans had in mind, however, it would be hugely surprising if another defender wasn’t to come in – especially considering Jesus Vallejo’s departure.

Dutch outlet AD claim that Lonwijk will complete the move to the Black County next week after Wolves agreed on a fee worth £170,000 for the highly-rated defender.

A lot of money has been invested by Wolves over the past couple of seasons on youngsters, and this makes it clear that they have big ambitions for the future and want to plan accordingly.

While it is obviously very hard to predict just how good this youngster will be with such little footage of him available online, it is clear that he is a top player with a lot of potential due to his caps for Netherlands’ U16 team. Tim Spiers has described him as having a ‘strong and athletic build’, so it will be interesting to see what kind of player he moulds into.
