Attacker Leo Bonatini has left Wolves t join Swiss side Grasshopper Zurich on loan, the Premier League club have announced.

Having helped Wolves win the Championship title in the 2017/18 campaign during a loan spell with the club, Bonatini made his move to Molineux permanent ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.

Since then however, the Brazilian has made just a handful of appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, spending spells out on loan with Nottingham Forest and Guimaraes.

Now, Bonatini is set for another long stint away from Molineux, with Wolves announcing on Tuesday that the 26-year-old has joined Grasshopper Zurich on a two-year loan deal.

There will be some familiar faces for Bonatini when he arrives at his new club, with fellow Wolves players Connor Ronan and Renat Dadashov already on loan with the Swiss second-tier side.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on Bonatini’s contract with Wolves, which does make the details of this detail seem slightly strange.

With his loan move a two-year one, it means that Bonatini’s deal at Molineux will be expiring at the same time as his loan in Switzerland.

Consequentially, it could be difficult for Wolves to negotiate a new contract with Bonatini while he is out on loan, meaning they may now risk losing the striker without receiving any sort of a fee for him in two year’s time, which could be frustrating from a financial perspective.

However, it doesn’t really seem as though Bonatini would have forced his way back into Nuno’s side any time soon, meaning that he is unlikely to be much of a miss to the club from a football point of view.
