It’s not unfair to say that matchday referee Roger East had a complete mare when he took charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ recent 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.
Heading to Dean Court to face off against manager Eddie Howe’s side, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges pretty much had a bad day at the office, much to the annoyance and frustration of fans who were hoping to see us return another three points in the Premier League campaign of 2018/19.
In many ways, East stole the show, awarding three penalties – all of which were debatable and one of the adjudged fouls wasn’t even in the penalty box – and failing to send off one of their players when he left midfielder Joao Moutinho with a bloody mouth.
Reacting to the news that East had now been seemingly demoted to the EFL after that performance, and that his job this weekend would be to oversee the Stoke City v Nottingham Forest tie, plenty of Wolves fans found the humour in that on social media.
What did Stoke and Forest do to deserve that?
