Wolverhampton Wanderers welcomed Leicester City to the Molineux for today’s early Premier League kickoff and fans were in for a treat.

A seven goal thriller played itself out following a hattrick by Diogo Jota and a solo effort by Ryan Bennett, and although Leicester did well to come back into the game after we’d taken the early advantage we were worthy of the win. We got it in controversial style though as offside debates will make the headlines following the game, but three points are three points and it’s another win.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo also made a few headlines for himself as he stepped onto the pitch to celebrate our last goal and saw himself sent to the stands for the minor indiscretion.

Jota becomes the first Wolves player to hit a top-flight hattrick since John Richards back in October 1977 – that game was also against Leicester.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle a delighted gaffer said of the tie.

“We should manage the game better but it’s football. At 2-0 up we know Leicester would react, they play to win the game, but we should manage it better of course. Both teams had inside of them the message of going for the game, that’s why there were so many spaces. Very good game. But a game we have to look at. Everyone enjoys the result, a fantastic game of football with two teams playing to win the game. After our advantage we should manage the game better but in football it is never finished.”

As for the red card.

“I tried to avoid going inside the pitch but it is clear and I was sent off for it and it is the right decision.”
