Wolverhampton Wanderers made the trip to Wembley Stadium earlier this afternoon for our FA Cup semi-final clash against Watford.

It was a bright start from head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s side with Matt Doherty opening the scoring in the 36th minute. Raul Jimenez doubled our advantage just after the hour mark but Watford hit back hard and with eleven minutes remaining on the clock, made it a one goal game.

Four minutes into stoppage-time Troy Deeney levelled the scores up from the penalty spot so into Extra Time we went.

The disappointment was clear to see on both the fans and the player’s faces, and with momentum their way, Watford took the all important Extra Time winner to progress through to the final and leave our hearts broken.

Disappointing and frustrating as we really should’ve had it sewn up at 2-0, but fans should be proud of the players as it’s been a remarkable season so far.

Speaking to the BBC following the day’s dramatic action, Nuno said of the game.

“It was an emotional game. We had it, and it got away from us. It was a sad moment, we cannot hide it. Now it is disappointing and sadness. We did the first half very good, second half not so good. We could not manage the ball. Watford kept going, long balls, and we didn’t manage well. When it comes to four minutes of injury time we should have possession of the ball. We couldn’t handle that and we got punished. We are disappointed. This is football, we must stand again, we have things to fight for, but I am very proud, tough ties we were able to win and today we played good. I honestly think we should have done better in the last moments of the game.”
