Report: Club ‘on the hunt’ for Wolves midfielder, 25 y/o’s versatility is a ‘positive characteristic’

According to La Gazetta, Lazio are ‘on the hunt’ for Leander Dendoncker. The 25-year-old’s versatility is said to be a ‘positive characteristic’ for the Serie A outfit, but it remains to be seen if Wolverhampton Wanderers would let him leave this summer.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Dendoncker initially joined Wolves on loan from RSC Anderlecht in 2018 and turned the move permanent in 2019. The Belgian international has gone on to make a total of 72 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals. He’s been a regular in midfield under Nuno Espirito Santo and impressed as makeshift centre-back this season too.

La Gazetta say Lazio view Dendoncker as an ‘alter-ego’ to Lucas Leiva, but they are also interested in his ability to play in defence. Vital Wolves have explained that the Midlands outfit aren’t in the business of selling valuable players, so it’s hard to see the 25-year-old being offloaded.

Dendoncker will be fighting with Romain Saiss, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho for a starting place in midfield next season but is an important part of the squad and worth keeping. The Belgian may not want to leave either, with Wolves competing for a top-six finish in the Premier League and having reached the last-16 of the Europa League.

Lazio may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
