According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Lazio are interested in Willy Boly. Their ‘director of football’ Igli Tare ‘has been following’ the 29-year-old since 2016, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be successful in bringing Boly to the Stadio Olimpico.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Boly initially joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan from FC Porto in 2017 and turned his move permanent in 2018. The French centre-back has gone on to make a total of 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and making three assists.

He’s been a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo but made only 13 Premier League appearances this season due to a fractured fibula.

Wolves’ defensive record in the league spiralled without Boly in November, December and January (15 games, 19 goals conceded, one clean sheet) but greatly improved when he returned in February and March (five games, two goals conceded, four clean sheets).

The 29-year-old would certainly improve the Lazio backline, but Wolves won’t let him go. Gazzetta dello Sport believe Boly’s uncertain future at Molineux stems from his contract being up in 2021, but the defender held talks over a new deal back in October before he suffered his injury, so Wolves are keen to keep him.

The Midlands outfit are no longer a selling club, so Lazio may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Willy is key to our strategy and signing him was a masterstroke. I trust Nuno to keep him happy.
