As last week came to a close, it was being claimed in Turkish press that Wolverhampton Wanderers were keeping a keen eye on Galatasaray Under 18 international midfielder Atalay Babacan.

The report originates from outlet Fotospor and they suggest that Wolves have now joined the potential race for the youngsters’ future along with clubs like Porto, Lyon and Villarreal.

The 18-year-old is described as an attacking midfielder and he made two senior appearances for the side back in December in the Turkish Cup competition, scoring in the first game according to Whoscored. He’s also scored three times in five UEFA Youth League games this season, and the report claims that we had scouts in attendance to run our eye over him during Turkey’s recent clashes with Cyprus and Portugal.

Whether this is standard rumour mill fodder, only time will tell, but Wolves have already shown with some of our signings that we have an eye on the future – whether that be players for potential first team development, or simply as future sales to help balance the books under Financial Fair Play.

He sounds like somebody that would possibly tick our boxes though.

He’s under contract until 2020.
