Pedro Neto was full of praise for Nuno Espirito Santo and credited the Wolves manager for his impressive form. The 20-year-old joined from Lazio last summer and went on to make 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and making four assists before the season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Neto wasn’t a regular for the first few months of the season, but a number of impressive cameos led to him picking up more minutes in 2020. The Portuguese U21 international featured in every EFL Cup & FA Cup game while missing just two of Wolves’ 12 Europa League outings.
He told Talksport via the Express and Star: “It is easy to play for (Nuno) as he trusts in his players. He’s a very good manager and encourages the players to give all they have. It’s been easy to play for him as you can see he’s an amazing coach.
“A lot of what I’ve been doing is from my work, but it’s from the confidence he gives me. I arrived here and I think a lot of people didn’t expect what I’m doing. This is about my work, but a lot about the confidence too.”
As per WhoScored, Neto made 21 Premier League appearances and had a hand in four goals. He created 12 chances, completed 82.6% of his 264 passes, won 18% of his aerial duels, had 25 successful dribbles (53%), had 13 shots with 30.8% accuracy, won 13 free-kicks, made five interceptions and made five tackles.
Neto still has a long way to go, but his debut season at Wolves has been a success so far. He had Diogo Jota, Adama Traore and Daniel Podence for competition and still managed to stand out, so things bode well for the future.
