Opinion: Wolves exit hasn’t gone to plan for 22-year-old forward

|

Patrick Cutrone joined Fiorentina on loan after losing the trust of Nuno Espirito Santo, but his return to Serie A isn’t going to plan. The 22-year-old was short of form and playing time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, forcing him to seek a move away before the January transfer window shut, but he’s still struggling to make an impact in games.

Cutrone has made seven appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina, scoring one goal. As per WhoScored, the Italian forward has only registered one shot on target in five Serie A outings, created one chance, won just 25% of his aerial duels (5/20) and made one successful dribble (33%). His only goal came in Fiorentina’s Coppa Italia win over Atalanta (January 15).

Wolves left themselves short in attack after letting Cutrone leave in January, but his form at Fiorentina suggests he hasn’t been much of a loss. The 22-year-old scored three goals in 24 appearances at Molineux and found himself on the periphery during the first half of this season – Nuno preferred Raul Jimenez in attack and frequently gave him 90 minutes.

Cutrone will stay at Fiorentina until 2021, but it remains to be seen if they’ll turn the move permanent based on current form.
