Opinion: Another Wolves striker is struggling out on loan

|

Patrick Cutrone left Wolverhampton Wanderers for Fiorentina on loan, but his return to Italy hasn’t gone well due to poor form. The 22-year-old is not the only striker from Molineux struggling either with Leo Bonatini having a difficult stint in Portugal.

The Brazilian centre-forward has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Vitoria Guimaraes, scoring six goals. Bonatini hasn’t found the back of the net in 2020, however, and has lost his place in the side as a result. He last rippled the back of the net in Vitoria’s Allianz Cup win over Covilha (December 21, 2019).

Bonatini hasn’t played much football this month, amassing 30 minutes in Vitoria’s 2-0 defeat to Boavista (February 2, 2020), being left out of the matchday squad in the 7-0 win over Famalicao (February 8) and picking up 16 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to FC Porto (February 16).

Bruno Darte and Joao Pedro have been getting playing time under Ivo Vieira but neither player has been prolific this season – eight goals between them in all competitions. Whether Bonatini can get himself back into the starting lineup for Vitoria’s meeting with Desportivo Aves (February 21) remains to be seen, however.
