Opinion: Why Wolves could avoid signing £65k-per-week Southampton man

|

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Cedric Soares and could battle Arsenal & West Ham United for his signature, but they may turn their attentions elsewhere because the £65k-per-week Southampton defender has struggled for form and playing time in 2019.

Cedric has spent four years at St Mary’s after joining from Sporting Lisbon, making 126 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 13 goals. The Portuguese international has fallen out of favour on the South Coast, however.

He made 18 Premier League appearances in 2018/19 and was part of a defence that conceded 40 goals in 23 games and kept only five clean sheets. Cedric was loaned to Inter Milan for the remainder of the campaign and found himself on the periphery in Italy – he played in just four Serie A games.

The 28-year-old might be a good squad option, providing back-up to Matt Doherty, but it remains to be seen if he’d become a regular at Molineux. Nevertheless, Cedric is out of contract next summer and has said he’ll leave Southampton when his deal expires, so he won’t cost Wolves much money to sign.

Do you think Cedric would be a good addition?

Yes, would provide good competition for Doherty

No, we don't need him

They may want to consider other options before making a move, however.
