What is going on with Roderick Miranda? Does he have a future at Wolves?

Roderick Miranda is somehow still on the books at Wolverhampton Wanderers despite being surplus to requirements and it remains to be seen whether he’ll find himself a new club before the Football League transfer window shuts on Friday.

The 29-year-old’s last appearance for us came back in 2018 and he finds himself behind Conor Coady, Willy Boly, Max Kilman and Romain Saiss in the pecking order under Nuno Espirito Santo, so what does Miranda’s future hold?

With one year remaining on his deal at Molineux, we risk losing Miranda on a free transfer unless we can cash in early. No club is budging, however, so we stand to lose a bit of money this season.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Frozen out in the last two years

Miranda joined us from Rio Ave in 2017 and has gone on to make 19 appearances in all competitions. The Portuguese centre-back found himself frozen out by Nuno just one year into his stay at Molineux, coincidentally once they’d been promoted to the Premier League.

Miranda was loaned out to Olympiacos (July 11, 2018 – June 30, 2019) and Famalicao (September 1, 2019 – July 31, 2020) after falling down the pecking order at Wolves, but he didn’t do enough to earn a permanent move.

No club seems keen to sign him

The 29-year-old made 20 appearances for Olympiacos and 28 for Famalicao, which is more than he managed with us, but he still finds himself in the wilderness.

Miranda cost us £2.7m and is currently valued at £1.35m, so he wouldn’t exactly break the bank. If we can’t convince a Championship club to sign him before Friday, the January transfer window is our last hope.

Prediction

I’d personally be surprised if a club came in for him. There’s more chance of Ryan Bennett being sold and Dion Sanderson being loaned out, so we may be stuck with Miranda for a few more months.

It shouldn’t have gone this far as Miranda has been on the transfer list for some time, but here we are. If clubs know his contract is up next year, they’re not likely to put up much money either.
