Roderick Miranda is still a Wolverhampton Wanderers player, but his days at Molineux looked numbered as he’s been out of favour for two years. The 29-year-old has embarked upon a number of loan moves away due to a lack of first-team football, but how did it go wrong so quickly for Miranda?

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

The Portuguese defender joined Wolves from Rio Ave FC in 2017 and has gone on to make 19 appearances in all competitions, 14 of which came in the first two months of his debut season. Miranda was a regular in August, September and October but lost his place at the heart of the defence and never won it back.

In the first three months of the 2017/18 campaign, the 29-year-old had started in Wolves’ first 14 Championship games, but he managed only three league appearances in the seven months that followed. Miranda spent the majority of his debut season as an unused substitute (16) and out of the matchday squad (13), leading to him being moved on the following summer.

Miranda joined Olympiacos on loan in 2018/19 and made 20 appearances across the board, but he wasn’t a regular under Pedro Martins. As per Transfermarkt, the centre-back was an unused substitute five times in the Europa League and 12 times in the Super League. He was left out of the matchday squad 11 times in all competitions too.

Unsurprisingly, Miranda was loaned out in his third season at Wolves too. He joined Famalicao until the end of the season and has so far made 19 appearances. The 29-year-old has been a regular under Joao Pedro Sousa, but it’s hard to see him having a future at Molineux when he returns this summer.

Miranda’s last league outing in a Wolves shirt came in May 2018 and now Willy Boly, Conor Coady, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Max Kilman are ahead of him in the pecking order. Fortunately, he only cost £2.7m and won’t go down as an expensive flop.
