“New deal, 19/20 extension, no offer” – Wolves’ options for 28 y/o amid contract uncertainty

|

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers have three options to settle the expiring contract of Phil Ofosu-Ayeh – a “new deal”, a “2019/20 extension” until the end of the season or “no offer” at all and a subsequent release. A decision must be made by June 23.

With the 28-year-old yet to make a single appearance for Wolves since joining the club in 2017, it’s very unlikely he’ll be offered a new deal. Ofosu-Ayeh has been loaned out to German clubs outside of the Bundesliga in recent years and doesn’t appear to be at the level required to play under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

The Ghanaian international was signed on a free transfer from Eintracht Braunschweig three years ago and was sent to Hansa Rostock (August 31, 2018 – January 30, 2019) one season after his arrival.

He made seven appearances for the German outfit before returning midway through the campaign to be offloaded to Würzburger Kickers (January 31, 2019 – June 30, 2019). Ofosu-Ayeh featured four times.

Matt Doherty is Wolves’ first-choice at right-back while Oskar Buur is back-up for the 28-year-old after being promoted from the reserves, so there’s no room for the Ghanaian. His contract may be allowed to expire as a result.
