“I received €60m and did not sell” – Club president says Wolves have to pay €100m for 25 y/o
Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira said Wolverhampton Wanderers and other clubs will have to pay €100m for Carlos Vinicius this summer.
The 25-year-old was said to be available for €60m, but Vieira revealed he’s already rejected such an offer, so Wolves would have to smash their transfer record to land Vinicius’ signature.
Benfica’s president explained to JN Direto: “I received an offer of 60 million by Vinícius and did not sell. It is tabulated by 100 million. If it weren’t for the pandemic, Benfica had two players sold for 100 million euros. Each one. There were 200 million.”
Vinicius joined Benfica for £15.3m from SSC Napoli last summer and has gone on to make 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and making 12 assists. The Brazilian striker is represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, so there’s a link with Wolves that may help in negotiations.
Benfica are in a strong position, however, as Vinicius has four more years remaining on his deal at the Estádio da Luz, so they have no obligation to lower their demands. Wolves signed Raul Jimenez permanently from the Portuguese outfit last summer and could be taking another striker off their hands a year later.
Danny Loader, Hee-Chan Hwang and Emmanuel Dennis among others are on Wolves’ radar, but it remains to be seen who they’ll bring in.
