Youngster pictured in Wolves first-team, 19 y/o training with senior squad ahead of PL return

|

Andreas Sondergaard is training with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first-team ahead of their meeting with West Ham United on June 19-21. The 19-year-old finds himself behind Rui Patricio and John Ruddy in the pecking order, so it remains to be seen if he’d make the team that travels to London.

Nevertheless, Sondergaard’s inclusion with the senior squad may be evidence that Nuno Espirito Santo has plans for him next season. The young goalkeeper was a regular for Wolves U23s (41 appearances) at the age of 17 and made Wolves’ Europa League squad at the age of 18. He could have a bright future.

Which club did Wolves sign Raul Jimenez from?

Sondergaard joined the Midlands outfit from Odense Boldklub in 2018 and has enjoyed a speedy rise from the youth ranks to the fringes of the first-team. Nuno has shown a willingness to give youngsters an opportunity, naming 17 players aged 21 or under in Wolves’ matchday squad at least once this season, so there’s a clear pathway for those who earn it.

Whether Wolves will loan out Sondergaard or give him opportunities in the domestic cups and Europe next season is unknown, however. He has his manager’s backing for now, so he needs to impress when training with the first-teamers.
