Ryan Bennett has admitted his future at Wolverhampton Wanderers is uncertain. The 30-year-old joined Leicester City on loan in January and had a £5m buying option attached to his contract, but he struggled for playing time at the King Power Stadium and could return to Wolves this summer.

Whether Nuno Espirito Santo will include Bennett in the first-team next season is unknown, however, as Wolves were happy to let him leave only months ago. The centre-back is expecting to see out the season at Leicester, but he can’t predict what will happen after that.

Bennett told Peterborough United’s ThePoshTV: “It’s the uncertainty of not knowing when you’re going back, how it’s going to play out, what’s going to happen this season, what’s going to happen next season. Obviously, from my position, I’m on loan until the end of the season, we’ll see what happens with that, everything is up in the air.”

The 30-year-old joined Wolves from Norwich City in 2017 and has gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and making one assist. As per Transfermarkt, Bennett featured 29 times in the Championship (2017/18) and 34 times in the Premier League (2018/19), but he’s fallen down the pecking order this season – 11 league appearances in 2019/20.

Conor Coady, Willy Boly, Max Kilman, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker were ahead of Bennett in the pecking order, so he was loaned out to get more opportunities. Unfortunately, the move to Leicester didn’t work out and the centre-back spent the majority of his time out of the matchday squad, so he doesn’t know where he stands.

Wolves are on the hunt for a centre-back, having been linked with Christian Luyindama and Gabriel Magalhaes among others, so Bennett may be surplus to requirements.
