Following on from the speculation this last week that suggested Wolverhampton Wanderers were looking to make Jonny Castro Otto’s loan deal from Atletico Madrid permanent, despite not having a buy clause in place, it was being suggested last night that we had found the magic number to grease the deal through.

Jonny has spoken himself about returning to his parent club after his Wolves adventure, and Atleti had made no bones about the fact they wanted the newly capped Spanish international back as they very much saw the 24-year-old as one for the future, but given how he’s settled into life at the Molineux and quickly won the fans over as Barry Douglas’s replacement, it’s no surprise that with no automatic purchase in place, we were doing all we could to capture him for the future.

Given the recent speculation Sky Sports reported late last night that a potential £18million deal (a joint club record fee with Adama Traore) had now been tabled and the expectation was our Spanish counterparts would now accept having knocked back the previously reported offer we tabled.

The words ‘are close to’ were used, so it’s not a done deal yet as I type, but as said when this became a thing on the rumour mill, I thought it would be about the right price and £18million could be that.

Fingers crossed.
