With Wolverhampton Wanderers battling to a replay in the FA Cup fourth round clash with Shrewsbury Town last Saturday, eyes turn back to the Premier League campaign and the final few days of the January transfer window.

There’s been plenty of speculation on the rumour mill about how Wolves might strengthen this window, particularly outgoings and striker targets, but one firm piece of information was our apparent approach to sign Jonny Castro Otto on a permanent deal.

Having joined over the summer of a season long loan with no reported option to buy, the 24-year-old’s stock has risen with good performances for us on the left-hand side and he’s now capped at full Spanish level.

Our offer was rejected by his parent club and they seem intent on welcoming him back at the end of the year and Jonny himself is on record apparently about looking forward to his return.

Sky Sports quoted him as saying earlier today about our interest and reports that we would complete the deal this week.

“What I can say about Jonny is we are very pleased and happy with him and I think he is also happy to be here. He works hard and stays focused knowing that people take care of the other business. Our job is to train and compete. Jonny and I only need to be focusing on what’s happening on the pitch and our tasks. We are preparing for the game tomorrow; we don’t get distracted by anything or anyone.”

Nuno did say that with so much speculation this month everyone had to ‘distance’ themselves from that noise and fans will ultimately just have to see if anything transpires between now and Thursday.
