Late yesterday evening it was being reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers were ready to cancel Danny Batth’s loan deal with Middlesbrough and complete a permanent deal with Stoke City ahead of the January transfer window slamming shut.

The 28-year-old has been with us for 18 years and in that time he’s made just over 200 club appearances for us, returning 16 goals from the heart of defence. With 21 appearances to his name under head coach Nuno Espirito Santo as we stormed to the Championship title and promotion, he slipped down the pecking order this year and a loan deal to Boro was organised for him to get greater game time.

It’s the end of an era, but few fans will be surprised to see him move on now as it’s in the best interests of everyone. The reported fee is said to be in the region of £3million (potentially rising to £4m with add ons) and he’s signed a new three and a half year contract with his new side.
