Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially confirmed this week that head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and the first team squad will head to the Premier League Asia Trophy during our pre-season campaign ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Wolves are set to play two friendlies at the prestigious tournament with the dates set as Wednesday 17 (Nanjing) and Saturday 20, July (Shanghai) and it will be our first ever appearance at the biennial competition.

We will be joined by Manchester City, Newcastle United and West Ham United and the Nanjing based game will feature one of our Premier League opposition.

Wolves’ managing director Laurie Dalrymple told the Official Website.

“We’re very excited to be a part of the Premier League Asia Trophy this summer on the back of a fantastic first season in the Premier League. Through our ownership group Fosun, Wolves have a great connection with China and it’s important the club is involved in one of the fastest growing markets in world football, while also giving our fans from Asia the opportunity to watch Nuno’s team play up close. It will be a fantastic experience for everybody connected to the football club and we all look forward to visiting Nanjing and Shanghai in July.”

With some fans holding outside European hopes for next season given where we sit in the Premier League table and our ongoing FA Cup campaign, should we be involved in the early stages of the Europa League we’ll have to see whether or not our plans change as it could be a hectic and early start to the summer depending on which route we hopefully take.
